Women's Tennis Team Squeak Out Road Win

The women's tennis team edged Mohawk Valley CC 5-4 in Utica Friday afternoon. The Hornets (7-0) defaulted at the No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles but were still able to secure the win to keep their undefeated season alive. 

Singles:

  1. Ella Brutsky (MVCC) def. Maria Mott (Vestal, NY/Vestal)  6-1, 7-5
  2. Molly Secord (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) def. Stephanie Calhoun (MVCC)  6-2, 6-1
  3. Nicole Dawson (MVCC) won by default.
  4. Jill Burns (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) def. Christina Schaefer (MVCC)  6-0, 6-4
  5. Madison Tassey (Binghamton, NY/Johnson City) def. Cheyenne Smith (MVCC) 6-4, 6-0
  6. Tina Le (MVCC) def. Madison Brennan (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 

Doubles:

  1. Mott/Second (Broome) def. Brutsky/Dawson (MVCC) 8-1
  2. Burns/Tassey (Broome) def. Calhoun/Schaefer (MVCC) 8-1
  3. Le/Smith (MVCC) won by default
Burns and Tassey remain undefeated in singles and doubles on the season. Brennan fought hard until the end losing her first match of the season in three tough sets.  Brennan's record is now 5-1 in singles and 5-0 in doubles on the season.  The Hornets return home on Sunday for a 1:00 P.M. match against SUNY Adirondack.
