Cashman is a Binghamton, NY native and is an alumna of SUNY Broome and Binghamton University where she was a student-athlete at each institution, and even coached at BU.
During her time as a student-athlete and coach in the Binghamton, NY area, Cashman made many positive contributions to the local volleyball scene.
Earlier this Fall, Cashman was honored and celebrated for her impact on the Binghamton University volleyball program when she was inducted into the Binghamton University Athletics Hall of Fame. Cashman was inducted alongside her former teammates as a member of the 1995 women's volleyball team, which put together a record-setting season en route to the program's first conference and state titles, first NCAA tournament berth, and highest win percentage in school history (40-9, 82%).
Competing at the NCAA Division III level and as a member of the SUNYAC conference at that time, Binghamton defeated nationally-ranked #12 SUNY Cortland in the championship of the conference tournament to win the program's first SUNYAC title. Cashman was named to the All-Tournament team. Binghamton then won its first New York State Championship behind three straight wins which included a 3-2 upset over top-seeded Rochester in the championship match. The win solidified Binghamton as one of the top-4 teams in the region, and the team was rewarded with its first-ever NCAA tournament berth. At the end of the season, Cashman was named a Regional All-American.
Cashman began her association with the Binghamton University volleyball program as an Assistant Coach in 1989. She then was a player on the team in 1994 and the aforementioned record-setting 1995 season. The Binghamton University Colonials, as they were called at the time, won a remarkable 81 matches and compiled a .794 winning percentage over those two years. Following her time as one of the team's leading players, Cashman then led the team as its Head Coach in 1997 and 1998. She brought Binghamton to a second NCAA Division III Tournament berth in 1997. In 1998, she guided Binghamton to the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament as an NCAA Division II team.
Earlier this Fall, Cashman and her women's volleyball teammates were inducted into the Binghamton University Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 29th annual Hall of Fame class over a breakfast ceremony at the Events Center on the campus of Binghamton University. At the ceremony the team was given a Hall of Fame plaque to commemorate its enshrinement, and a formal writeup was prepared for all guests at the event to inform them of all the team's great accomplishments, such as winning 18 consecutive matches during the '95 season.
