Bats Come Alive
The softball team had 27 hits in their doubleheader against Jamestown CC on Tuesday afternoon en route to two wins, taking the opener 16-3 and the nightcap 23-6.
The softball team had 27 hits in their doubleheader against Jamestown CC on Tuesday afternoon en route to two wins, taking the opener 16-3 and the nightcap 23-6. Tuesday's games made it three straight wins for the Hornets, the first time the team has accomplished that marker this year.
Game one saw the Jayhawks take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning only to be answered by the Hornets with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Broome tacked on four runs in the second, five in the third and four more in fourth. Jenna Gaisford earned the win, striking out four and walking only one. Keira Warwick pace the Hornet bats with four hits, two of them being doubles. Brianna Ramstine and Leah Carlini had the big bats, both posting two hits in the contest, a double and a homerun. Lauren Simmons, Carly Kirtland and Logan Ives each chipped in with one hit each, Simmons and Kirtland's hits were both doubles.
Warwick picked up the win in the second game with seven strikeouts and no base on balls. Carlini came up big with five hits in as many at bats including two doubles and five RBIs. Kirtland was a perfect three for three at the plate with four RBIs and a double. McKenna Beers, Warwick and Gaisford all had two hits each, and Ives and Ramstine had one hit, the latter her second homerun of the day.
The Hornets look to keep their winning streak alive when they travel to Finger Lakes CC in Canandaigua this Sunday for a twinbill beginning at 12:00 P.M.
