Softball Falls In Doubleheader Against Mohawk Valley

The softball team hosted a doubleheader against Mohawk Valley on Monday, losing game 1 by a score of 11-1 and game 2 by a score of 12-6.

Game 1 lasted six innings while game 2 went the distance for seven innings. 

The Hawks of Mohawk Valley scored at least one run in five of the six innings in game 1, while Broome found a run in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 11-1. The top four of the lineup for the Hornets provided all four of Broome's hits in the contest. Hannah Aton, Alana Espinoza, and Mackenzie Collins all went 1-3 while Icey Jones was 1-2 with an RBI. Sarah Espe pitched six innings for the Hornets, allowing just four hits and striking out six Hawks. 

Game 2 saw Broome hold a 2-1 lead after the first two innings. Mohawk Valley countered with four runs in the third and five runs in the fourth. Broome was trailing 10-3 in the fifth when the team pushed across three runs in that inning but it wasn't enough as Mohawk Valley survived to take game 2, 12-6.

The Hornets outhit the Hawks in game 2, fueled by multi-hit efforts from Aton, Jones, Collins, and Kiara Doyle. Aton had a triple and scored two runs, Jones scored a run, had two doubles, and had four RBI. Collins went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Doyle was 2-3. Dayani Lora added an RBI triple.

Espinoza pithed six innings in game 2, striking out four batters. 

The team is next scheduled to travel to Tompkins Cortland CC on Thursday for a doubleheader at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
