The softball team hosted a doubleheader with the Jefferson Cannoneers on Thursday and suffered a loss in both games.

The decisive factor on the day was miscues in the field for the Hornets. Broome matched Jefferson in hits in game 1 with four apiece, but fell 13-3. The Hornets then logged five hits in game 2 and allowed just a few more to Jefferson at eight, but fell 15-1.

Sarah Espe dealt 4.0 innings from the circle for Broome in game 1, allowing just four hits and striking out five. Hannah Aton relieved Espe for the final inning and did not allow a hit. Espe continued her consistency from the circle, as she has registered 57 strikeouts over 41.1 innings on nine appearances this season.

Aton, Espe, Abigail Rice, and Kiara Doyle had the four hits for Broome in the contest. Aton's was a triple that drove in a run while Espe's was a double that drove in a run. The Doyle single also brought home a Hornet run.

Alana Espinoza was the starter in the circle for Broome in game 2. Espinoza struck out five over 4.0 innings. Broome did not take the field in the fifth inning since the Hornets were the visiting team in game 2 of the doubleheader.

Aton continued her successful day at the plate by going 2-3 in game 2. Espinoza, Espe, and Rice added a hit each to account for the five Hornet hits.

The Hornets sit at 3-15 on the season as they look ahead to two more games via a road clash with the Onondaga Lazers this Sunday, beginning at 12:00 PM.
