Softball Struggles On Road
The softball team struggled this weekend, losing all four games, the first came at the hands of Niagara County CC in Sanborn and the second loss came from Onondaga CC in Syracuse.
The softball team struggled this weekend, losing all four games, the first came at the hands of Niagara County CC in Sanborn and the second came from Onondaga CC in Syracuse.
The first loss of the weekend was a 10-2 Thunderwolves win in Sanborn. Niagara got out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and were threatened in the top of the third when Broome scored two runs to draw within two, 4-2, but that's as close as the Hornets would get. Brianna Ramstine and Aryn Bicksler each hit the ball hard for doubles and Brooke Ladd singled for the only three Broome hits. Jenna Gaisford took the loss in the circle, giving up ten hits, ten runs, four walks and one strikeout.
Game two in Sanborn on Saturday started out much better for Broome, taking a 5-2 lead after two innings of play. The lead held until the bottom of the fourth when Niagara exploded for ten runs to put the game out of reach and the eventual 13-5 win. Ramstine and Ladd each had two hits, one of Ramstine's hit was a triple. Leah Carlini, Marrissa Rogers and Gaisford all collected a hit in the contest. Keira Warwick took the loss on the pitching plate.
Game one in Syracuse on Sunday went in favor of the Lazers, 5-1. The bats were quiet in the opener for the Hornets with only Bicksler and Lauren Simmons getting hits. Gaisford pitched well enough to win, going the distance and giving up five runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking two.
The second game started out all Onondaga after a 4-0 lead at the end of two before Broome answered with three in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Lazers responded with eight more runs to seal the win and ended any hope of a split for Broome. Ladd, Carlini and Bicksler had one hit each in the nightcap with Ladd's being a double. Warwick got the nod to start the game and went four innings, the righty gave up five runs on five hits and struck out three.
Broome is on the road again this Tuesday for a twin bill against Mohawk Valley CC in Utica, scheduled for 3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.
