The baseball team hosted a doubleheader against #6 nationally-ranked Niagara County CC on Thursday and lost both games.

After a competitive first three innings in game 1 which saw Niagara hold just a 3-1 advantage, the Thunderwolves scored three runs in the fifth inning and six runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away, 13-2.

Nolan Hawkins received the start for the Hornets in game 1 and went four innings while allowing five earned runs but striking out four batters. Kobe Dela Cruz was 1-3 with a stolen base and a run scored. Trevor Dennison scored the other run for the Hornets. Jacob McTigue went 1-3 with two stolen bases while Nicholas Ragonese also collected a hit and a stolen base.

Niagara jumped on Broome early in game 2, using 6-run second and third innings to fuel an eventual 20-0 win after five innings.

Nathan Moses had a successful relief pitching appearance, striking out one and walking none over 1.1 innings. Kaden Grayson was 1-2 while McTigue and Ragonese notched another hit apiece. McTigue's was a double.

The Hornets stole eight bases as a team over the two games Thursday, bringing their season total to 65 stolen bases over just nine games. The 65 stolen bases are already more than double the number that the Hornets finished the entire season with last year.

The loss of both ends of the doubleheader drops Broome to 5-4 on the season. The Hornets will finish their four-game set vs Niagara with a road doubleheader on Saturday at Sal Maglie Stadium, beginning at Noon.
