Baseball Falls In Doubleheader To Genesee

The baseball team hosted Genesee CC on Sunday for a doubleheader and dropped both games, 12-1 and 23-1, respectively.

Game 1 of the doubleheader lasted six innings while game 2 lasted five innings.

Tyler Sienko was on the mound for the Hornets in game 1, allowing just two earned runs over 5.1 innings and striking out four. Broome collected four hits in the contest, notched by Jacob McTigue, Daniel Crowley, Thomas Contrata, and Nicholas Ragonese. The hits by Crowley and Ragonese were doubles. Joseph Chermak drew a walk and Ragonese added a stolen base. On the opposing side, Genesee was held scoreless in the first inning but then scored in each inning after that, highlighted by two four-run innings. 

In game 2, McTigue got the starting nod at pitcher for the home team. He walked just one batter and struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings. The Hornets tallied seven hits as a team in this contest. Four of them were for extra bases. Chermak went 2-2 at the plate and stole a base. Nolan Hawkins collected a hit off the bench for Broome. Contrata scored the lone Hornets run in the game. Genesee scored eight runs in the first two innings, and scored in all five innings, collecting 19 hits en route to the win.

Broome falls to 5-8 on the season and will look to get back on track with another doubleheader vs the Cougars, this time on the road at Genesee, this Thursday.
