Defensive Effort Leads To Home Win
The men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Cayuga CC by a score of 81-62.
The men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Cayuga CC by a score of 81-62. The win also marked a first for Coach Brendan Doherty as a head coach at the collegiate level, the first of many more to come.
The Hornets trailed the Spartans by 10 at halftime, 43-33, before locking down on the defensive side of the ball and holding the visitors to 25 points in the second half to overcome the 10 point deficit. On the offensive side of the ball Broome continued to shoot the ball at a high level, shooting 46% from the field.
Sophomore forward Andrew Charles continued to get it done at the offensive end, scoring both inside and outside. Charles shot 53% from the field including 50% from beyond the arc. He knocked down 5 three pointers, including two in a row to extend Broome's lead to 67-59 with 7:12 left on the clock. Andrews led all scorers with 23 points and freshman forward Jean Senatus remained consistent with 18 points and 12 rebounds, proving too much to handle down low for Cayuga. Sophomore guard Seth Roselle, Jr also shot the ball well, going 6-10 from the field, 3-5 from the arc for 17 points and added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals to his totals.
Broome is off now for the Thanksgiving break and will return to action on Tuesday, November 29th in Canandaigua for a MSAC matchup against Finger Lakes CC, scheduled for a 7:30 P.M. tip.
