The Hornets got off to a rocky start against Mohawk Valley CC on Tuesday afternoon, dropping the opener 14-2 before rebounding in the second game for a 7-6 win over the Hawks.

Game one was all leadoff hitter Brianna Ramstine for the Hornets, the freshman catcher from Chenango Forks laced a line drive to right-center for her first home run of the day after taking the Mohawk hurler deep into the count. She followed that at bat with another ball over the the fence in the second inning for her second four-bagger of the day. Unfortunately for Broome those were the only runs scored in the game despite hits by Brooke Ladd, Jacqualine Bigelow and Keira Warwick. Jenna Gaisford took the loss in the circle.

Game two started much the same way as game one with the Hawks taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and Ramstine leading off for Broome with yet another home run, her third of the day. Mohawk took a 5-2 lead into the fifth inning before Broome exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Ramstine had three hits followed by Bigelow with two, both doubles. Leah Carlini, Marrissa Rogers, Kaitlyn Andrews and Logan Ives all picked up a hit each in the contest. Warwick threw a complete game for Broome, giving up eight hits and six runs over seven innings for the victory.

Broome begins a three-game homestretch to close out the season beginning with SUNY Adirondack on Thursday, Jefferson CC on Monday and Jamestown CC on Tuesday.
