The women's basketball team traveled to Dallas, PA to take on the Mountain Lions from Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday evening and fell short, falling in the opener by a score of 54-52.

Both teams played even in the first quarter and ended in a 12 all tie before Wilkes-Barre took a 3 point lead into halftime. The third quarter belonged to the Mountain Lions, outscoring the Hornets 16-8 behind the scoring of Hannah Cook and Logine Moustafa. Entering the final frame Broome found themselves down 45-34. Down by as many as 13 points early in the fourth, Broome methodically got the stops they needed to be in a position to tie the game with under 8 seconds to go. After a timeout and advancing the ball to midcourt, the Hornets just missed a chance to tie it up at 54-54 on an out of bounds play.

Ava Eichler started the 2022-23 season with a double-double, she led all scorers with 30 points and all rebounders with 15. Michelle Mercado filled the stat line in her collegiate debut with 9 points, 7 boards, 4 assists and 4 steals. Gwendolyn Payne chipped in with 6 points and 6 boards and, Ghia Medovich added 5 points and 4 boards. Sarah Yakout led both teams in assists with 5 to go along with her 5 boards.

The Hornets will host Northampton CC this Thursday in the Baldwin Gymnasium at 6:00 P.M.
