Volleyball Defeats Tompkins-Cortland CC at Home In Four Sets

SUNY Broome  took on Tompkins-Cortland CC in a MSAC match Wednesday night in the Baldwin Gym. In set one Broome led 10-8 before Samantha Schou went on a four point run giving the Hornets a 14-8 lead. In set two Maria Jose Pelaez Jaramillo served seven straight points including 2 aces to give Broome (5-6; 2-2 MSAC)a 12-4 lead. Caitlin Axtell served another four points giving Broome the 17-6 lead. The Hornets never looked back winning the set 25-11. Broome dropped the third set 15-25 when Tori Branch went on a seven point run for the Panthers (2-11;0-4 MSAC). Ciara Campagna served five points to start the fourth set, followed by another five point run by Schou for the 25-16 win. Sophomore Chelsea Graham and Freshman Pelaez Jaramillo led the offense with 9 kills a piece for the match, while sophomore setter Ciara Campagna dished out 25 assists. Freshman Jenna Dodd anchored the defense with 9 digs, while Pelaez Jaramillo finished the evening as block leader (2) and ace leader (4). The Hornets will travel to Queensbury, NY on Saturday for a regional POD tournament hosted by Adirondack CC.
