Effective starting this 2025 season, the SUNY Broome track & field program has promoted former Associate Head Coach Alexis Katchuk to the Head Coach role.
Katchuk will take over the reigns as Tom Carter takes a step away from the program to return his focus on leading the SUNY Broome cross country teams, his first love and something he has an extensive and successful history with.
Carter, the longtime Head Coach of the Hornets' cross country program, also offered his services without hesitation to lead the track & field teams during their inaugural season in 2022. He found success immediately, leading the women to a Region III Championship title in the first season. Carter's willingness to lead the track & field program in addition to his championship-winning cross country program allowed for the organization to come together quickly and hit the ground running.
Katchuk has been involved with the SUNY Broome track & field program since the inaugural 2022 season and has been influential in its growth and development over the past three years. She has also been an English professor at SUNY Broome since 2015.
Katchuk began participating in track & field when she was 10 years old, so she has compiled 37 years of involvement in the sport. She was a 6X Section IV champion in the long jump and triple jump while in high school. Then, she became the first freshman to be named a 2X All-American in the rich athletic history at Moravian College (now Moravian University). Following her standout collegiate career in the sport, Katchuk has been officiating track & field at the high school and collegiate levels for 11 years.
Katchuck enjoys coaching track & field due to her ability to resonate with her athletes on the experiences of being a student-athlete. She applauds them for being able to focus on both school and sports.
SUNY Broome Athletics is eager to watch the track & field program continue its rise as Katchuk is handed its keys.
