The women's basketball team defeated Corning CC at home on Wednesday night, 67-56, for their third win in a row. The Hornets dropped the last meeting in mid January to the Red Barons by 20 points. Wednesday belonged to Broome, thanks in large part to their collective defensive efforts, posting a season-high 22 steals led by Brooke Ladd with 7 on the night.

The Red Barons jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter behind Jodie Decker's 6 points before the Hornets and Gwendolyn Payne answered to take a 17-12 lead into the second quarter, 9 of those 17 points coming from Payne. The second frame saw a great defensive effort by the host team by holding the visitors to 8 points and a 30-20 halftime lead.

Dana Stepp scored 8 of her 12 points in the third quarter to help Broome take a 50-35 advantage into the final quarter. Corning cut into the lead several times in the fourth only to have Broome answer back with some key stops and 13 points from Ava Eichler.

Eichler led all scorers with 28 points to go with her 2 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Payne finished with 18 points and 4 steals and Ladd chipped in with 6 points, 9 boards 4 assists, 7 steals and 3 blocks. Stepp filled the stat lines with 12 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

Broome will travel this Friday for a 5:00 P.M. contest against Tompkins Cortland CC in Dryden before heading to Batavia and a 1:00 P.M. contest on Saturday against Genesee CC.
