Women Advance To Elite Eight

The women's basketball team advanced to the Elite Eight after defeating Cayuga CC, 65-46, in the opening round of the Region III Division III Women's Basketball Championships. Broome will head to Saranac Lake for a game on Tuesday at 5:00 P.M. against the #2 seed North Country CC. The Hornets lost to the Saints, 74-64, in their previous meeting back on November 13th in Saranac Lake. 

Cayuga started out on a 5-0 run before Ava Eichler and Gwendolyn Payne took over the game, scoring 19 of the Hornets' 21 points in the first frame. Broome took a 33-20 lead into the half and never looked back, outscoring the Spartans again in the second half, 32-26. All eight players made it into the scoring column led by Eichler with 30 points, she also added 5 assists and 6 steals to her totals. Payne added 10 points, Megan Carden had 8 points, Melissa Carden had 7 points, Jenna Albin had 4 points, Lakeisha Temu had 3 points and Brooke Ladd and Dana Stepp each had 2 points. Stepp also had 11 assists and a couple of steals and Payne paced the home team with 9 rebounds. Doray DiLallo led Cayuga with 16 points.

The winner of Tuesday's matchup will face the winner of the Fulton Montgomery/Jefferson game on Saturday, February 26th.
