Hornets Pick Up Home Win

Broome improved to 6-1 on Tuesday as they defeated Mohawk Valley CC 9-0 at The Oz Winters Tennis Complex.  Shyanne Daye (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) won her match at No.1 singles, she has dropped only 1 of her 13 games in singles.  After dropping the first set, Emily Whitaker (Vestal, NY/Vestal) came back to win at No.3 singles in three sets.   Mollie Elder (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) continues to improve at No.4 singles, defeating Johnson in a close match in the third set tiebreaker 10-6. Chelsea Deuel (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) played at No.2 singles and pulled out her marathon match after three hours of play.  Deuel dropped the first set but turned the match around to win the 2nd set and the third set tiebreaker 10-8. The Hornets had to accept defaults at No.5 and No.6 singles.

At first doubles Daye and Murphy won easily only dropping 2 games on route to their victory. Kara Shanks (Erie, PA/McDowell) moved up to second doubles with Duel and finished their match in virtual darkness, winning a close one 8-6.  Deuel remains undefeated for the season in doubles (7-0).

The Hornets will face Herkimer College CC in another home match on Wednesday at 4:00 P.M. in their final match of the regular season.
