Akulis And Palumbo Lead Hornets At Cardinal Classic
David Akulis and Avery Palumbo headlined a strong day for the men's track & field team on the campus of St. John Fisher University.

Akulis was the team's top placer, earning 6th place overall in the men's high jump with a height of 1.81 meters.
Palumbo, meanwhile, has continued to break his own school record in the men's 400 meter hurdles which he initially set on April 4. On April 18, Palumbo improved his time in the event from 1:06.35 to 1:04.28. On Saturday, he bettered that mark to a time of 1:02.81, which also meets the qualifying standard for Nationals.
Braeden Goerlich, Charles Larrabee, Lucas McPeak, Yuri Brich, and Ya'Siin Bacchas all competed in the men's 100 meter dash, which fielded 88 competitors. Goerlich was the top finisher for the Hornets with a time of 11.69 seconds; followed by Larrabee with 11.93 seconds, McPeak with 12.09 seconds, Brich with 12.12 seconds, and Bacchas with 12.64 seconds. Goerlich, Larrabee, McPeak, and Brich also combined for the men's 4x100 meter relay with a time of 45.36 seconds.
The men's 200 meter fielded 66 competitors, and Nevan Doubleday was the top Hornet finisher in that event with 24.22 seconds. He was followed by Larrabee at 24.28, Bacchas with a season-best 25.07, and Jacob Quail at 27.50. Both of the SUNY Broome runners in the men's 400 meter logged a personal best as Doubleday crossed the line at 56.00 seconds and Demetrius Wilson Jr. finished in 57.96 seconds.
Doubleday continued his successful day by logging an additional season best; clearing 1.71 meters in the high jump. In a field of 104 runners for the men's 800 meter, Quail came close to matching his season best in the event, running 2:27.97.

The team will next compete in the NJCAA Division III Region III Championship meet on May 3, which is hosted by Herkimer College and will take place in Little Falls, NY.
