The women's soccer team hosted Hudson Valley CC on Wednesday and fell by a thrilling 3-2 margin.
The match was evenly played throughout its entirety, with both sides having opportunities to score and battling with nail-biting plays until the final horn.
Broome was scored on in just the ninth minute of action, but the Hornets quickly bounced back to equalize with a goal less than a minute later. Zephora Brouillette received a long ball and deftly touched it around the keeper before it slotted into the net for the Hornets.
Hudson Valley took a 2-1 advantage that would hold for a while. After a shot on goal that was saved by the Vikings' keeper, the ball deflected out to Jessica Wells, who found the back of the net with a left-footed shot off of the rebound. The score remained tied at 2-2 entering halftime.
Hudson Valley struck again within the first two minutes of play in the second half to open up a 3-2 lead. Despite numerous back and forth battles in the second half which saw Broome have many opportunities to tie it up, Hudson Valley hung on for the 3-2 win. The Hornets turned up the attack in the final minutes but saw a few last-second attempts miss the goal.
Madeline Hyzer made a total of seven saves throughout the contest.
Broome now owns a record of 1-7 on the season and will visit Herkimer College on Saturday.
