Volleyball Goes 1-2 In Watertown

The volleyball team traveled to Watertown on Saturday for the Jefferson Invitational and lost to the host team 3-0, then lost to Genesee CC 2-1, before picking up a 3-0 win against Herkimer College in the final match of the day.

The Hornets opened up against a seasoned Cannoneer team and dropped the opening match 3-0 with set scores of 20-25, 12-25, 11-25. Megan Carden led the team with 7 kills, Anna Tiberia had 13 assists and Brianna Rossi had 22 digs. Melissa Carden had a team high 3 aces to go with her 2 blocks and Josephine Dure chipped in with 2 blocks as well.  

In the second match, Broome raised their level of play against Genesee but still came out on the short end of the closely contested match falling 2-1 by set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 24-26. Melissa Carden had 10 kills, Megan Carden had 9 kills and Gabriella Bishop added 8 kills. Tiberia again led the way with 29 assists, Megan Carden led the team with 22 digs and Rossi added 21 digs. Megan Carden and Casie Kephart each had 3 aces in the match while Dure had 3 solo blocks and Melissa Carden added 1 solo block and 3 assisted blocks.
 
Broome looked to be in mid-season form in the final match of the day and swept Herkimer 3-0 wth set scores of 25-11, 25-18, 25-14. Melissa Carden had a big match with 12 kills, 4 solo blocks and 2 assisted blocks. Megan Carden added 7 kills and Madyson McMorrow added 5 kills. Tiberia directed the offense with 27 assists and Rossi had 21 digs and 3 kills from the back row. Bishop led the team with 5 aces in the match.
 
The Hornets have their home-opener on Tuesday evening against the Lazers from Onondaga CC, scheduled for a 6:00 P.M. start.
