The baseball team earned a 12-5 win in its season opener by way of four Broome pitchers combining to limit PSU WB to just one hit.

Thomas Ricci was the starting pitcher for the Hornets, dealing 2.1 innings of no-hit ball and striking out 5 PSU WB batters, while allowing just 2 earned runs. Nolan Hawkins was the first pitcher into the game in relief of Ricci, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up no hits while fanning 2 batters. Tyler Sienko would follow, throwing 3.0 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts and only 2 walks, allowing just 1 hit- the only hit for the Mountain Lions on the day. Sienko got credit for the win. Thomas Contrata closed out the game in the top of the ninth inning with 3 strikeouts.

The Hornets collected 12 hits at the plate as a team, led by a Nicholas Ragonese 4-5 performance. Ragonese drove in 2 runs and also stole 3 bases. Daniel Crowley went 2-4 with 3 runs batted in, including a triple. Kobe Dela Cruz was 1-3 with 2 runs batted in, while Trevor Dennison and Contrata had 1 rbi each. Leadoff hitter Jack Symons knocked in 2 runs for the Hornets and swiped 2 bags on the bases.

Broome scored the first runs of the game by putting up a 5 spot in the bottom of the second inning. The Mountain Lions would return the favor with 5 runs of their own in the top of the third inning. The Hornets defense would hold PSU WB scoreless for the remainder of the game, and offensively, Broome tacked on 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth and 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh to arrive at the final score of 12-5.

The Hornets move to 1-0 on the season ahead of a 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. doubleheader this Sunday at SUNY Jefferson CC.
