Volleyball hosted a POD on Saturday and finished with a 1-1 record thanks to a win vs Mohawk Valley and a loss to Herkimer.
Also in competition at the POD were the Red Barons of Corning CC.
The host team started its day with a matchup against the Hawks of Mohawk Valley. The Hornets overwhelmed the Hawks quickly, jumping out to a 1-0 lead after taking the first set 25-6. Broome continued the hot start by winning the second and third sets by identical 25-11 scores, securing a 3-0 sweep over Mohawk Valley.
Amariah Argro led the Hornets with a match-high eight kills, no Hawk was able to put together more than two kills throughout the match. Anna Le and Kate Spencer chimed in for Broome with three of their own. Ha Tran compiled 17 assists while Lejla Cehic collected three solo blocks in the match. Spencer and Rylee Weed each had five service aces in the contest.
Broome welcomed in Herkimer College for its next matchup in the POD, with the Generals coming off a 3-0 loss to Corning in their first match. Herkimer had other plans for this match, however, as the visitors swept Broome 3-0 behind set scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-16. The Hornets never felt overmatched or out of the match in any set, but continuously found themselves behind and unable to break through for a comeback.
Spencer tallied a team-high 11 kills in this one, while Argro added five. Tran again collected 17 assists in addition to seven digs. Ayshah Almashni came up with 18 digs. Weed and Le each had three solo blocks.
The team owns a 2-3 overall record after the 1-1 showing on Saturday. Broome will be back in action on September 14 at a POD at Genesee CC. The Hornets are scheduled for a matchup with Jamestown CC at 12:00 PM, and a showdown with the Cougars at 2:00 PM.
