Women's Volleyball Comes Up Short At Finger Lakes POD

The Hornets first battled Monroe CC to four sets and next fought for three sets against Finger Lakes, losing both matchups.
The Tribunes opened the match with a 25-19 win in the first set, putting Broome in an early hole. The Hornets responded for a tight 25-22 victory in the next set to even the match. Monroe would respond by taking the final two sets however, one by a relatively dominant score of 25-16, and the other in another nail-biting decision of 25-23. This meant a 3-1 loss for Broome to start the day.
Kate Spencer led the Hornets with 13 kills while Amariah Argro had 18 assists and Ayshah Almashni had eight digs.
After the loss to Monroe, Broome took on the host of the POD and the nationally ranked Finger Lakes Lakers in the second match. The Lakers entered the POD ranked #4 overall in the NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball rankings, and have since moved up to #3 overall. Finger Lakes came out strong with a 25-16 win in the first set and took things to an even higher level in the second and third sets, winning 25-9 and then 25-12. Broome was swept 3-0.
Lejla Cehic led the Hornets in kills in this match with four, Argro had two kills, four assists, nine digs and a solo block, Almashni had eight digs, and Spencer had three kills and five digs.
By going 0-2 on the weekend, Broome falls to 4-8 on the season.
Next up, the team will participate in a POD at Corning CC on Saturday, with matches scheduled against Hudson Valley and SUNY Adirondack. The Hornets then return home on Sunday to host Genesee CC at 1:00 PM.
