The softball team split round one today with Mohawk Valley CC losing game one 6-5 and winning game two 3-1 in the first day of the Region III Softball Championships. In game one Nicole Caricchio (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) singled in the bottom of the fifth to put the tying run on and McKenzie Martin (Deposit, NY/Deposit) followed with an RBI double to tie the game. The Hawks took the 6-5 lead for good in the sixth inning on a throwing error. With the score tied 1-1 in the seventh inning in game two Catherine Caricchio (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) walked to get on base before Laura Knight (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) drove her in to take the 2-1 lead. MarTee Kolpakas (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) doubled home Knight for the 3-1 final.

Broome will face Mohawk Valley at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at BAGSAI for the right to move on in the Region III Championships.
