Softball Takes Two On The Road

The softball team swept Niagara County CC in western New York  Wednesday taking game one 5-3 and game two 13-11.

In the first game the Hornets jumped out to 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd off back to back singles by Justina Ellis and Courtney Doupe put runners on followed by back to back hits by Reaghan Fischette and Mindy Fisher to drive in both.  Niagara came back in the bottom of 2nd with solo home runs to tie it up. With two on in the 4th Fisher drove in what proved to be the winning runs with a 2 RBI single.

After 5 innings and the game knotted at 8-8 Samantha Osario hit a two out solo homerun in the 6th to give Broome the 9-8 lead.  In the bottom of the 6th a combination of hits, walks, miscues, hail and rain Niagara plated 3 runs to take a 11-9 lead into the 7th.  With one out and two on base Karisa Sheriff hit her 2nd home run of the game to drive in what proved to be the winning runs.  Shelby Petterson drove in Fisher with a double to add an insurance run.  In the bottom of the 7th Niagara loaded the bases with no outs but the Hornets defense held firm holding them scorless and escaping with the win. Sheriff ended the second game 4-5, 2 homeruns and 5 RBI's. Osario went 3-4, 1 homerun and 2 RBI's.
