Slow Start Costly For Men

Broome keeper with a save
vs Fulton-Montgomery

A slow start for the Hornets proved to be too much to overcome in a 4-2 loss to Fulton-Montgomery CC on Wednesday afternoon in a Region III contest played on Alumni Field. The Raiders got on the scoreboard in the 12th minute off the foot of Jackson McCandish, his first of three consecutive goals for the visitors. He followed that up with two more goals, one in the 19th and 25th minute and their last goal of the match came in the 38th minute. Yuri Brich responded a minute later when he beat the Raider keeper on the near post from a ball played in by John Simmons giving the Hornets momentum going into halftime down 4-1.

That momentum continued in the second half for Broome as they kept the pressure on the Raider's defense throughout the half. Nathaniel Wojcik connected for the lone goal in the half in the 65th minute when he beat the keeper off a pass from John Serafini. The Hornets had a few chances late in the game to close the two goal deficit but were unable to finish their chances. Owen Moretin, Aaron Salisbury and Andrew Buckler continued to perform well in the back to help keep Broome within striking distance. The Hornets fall to 3-8 on the season while the Raiders improved to 4-2.

Broome is back on the pitch this weekend with matches on both Saturday and Sunday at Alumni Field, scheduled kickoff is 3:00 P.M. both days. Saturday SUNY Adirondack will be in town and Sunday Hudson Valley CC will make the trip.
