The Hornets fell to Herkimer College on Monday afternoon at the Bearcat Softball Complex by scores of 19-4 and 13-3 due in part to costly mistakes. Jenna Gaisford and Alana Espinoza turned in solid performances in the circle but the defense floundered all day, committing 18 errors in all.

In the opener, the Generals hit through the batting order in each of the first three innings and missed doing it again in the fourth by one batter. The Hornets had seven hits in all led by Brianna Ramstine and Espinoza with two hits each followed by Leah Carlini, Lauren Simmons and Logan Ives with one each. Gaisford went 2 1/3 innings before being hit by a ball hit up the middle and Espinoza finished out the game.

Game two saw Broome jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Espinoza singled, Carlini reached on an error and Keira Warwick singled to right. Herkimer answered right back with three in the bottom of the inning and tacked on seven more in the second and never looked back. Warwick paced the Hornets with two hits and Ramstine, Espinoza and Carlini chipped in with one hit apiece.

The Hornets are right back at it Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Columbia-Greene CC for a doubleheader in Hudson with the first pitch scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
