Softball Splits Again

Broome split their doubleheader at the BU Softball Complex on Monday against Genesee CC, taking game one in a high scoring affair 15-12 before dropping game two 19-10.

The Cougars jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first before Jenna Gaisford settled down in the circle over the next two innings. The Hornets responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom of the third, plating seven runs on five hits and a 9-7 lead. Broome never gave up the lead after the third, scoring three runs in both the fifth and sixth inning. The Broome bats put up 17 hits in the contest including five doubles, three triples and a team leading home run by Brianna Ramstine. Ramstine led the Hornets at the plate with 2 doubles, a home run and 3 RBIs. Alana Espinoza also picked up three hits, one of them a triple, Leah Carlini had 2 doubles and Gaisford had a double and a single. Also hitting triples in the game were McKenna Beers and Lauren Simmons. Carly Kirtland added to the hit totals with 2 singles. Gaisford earned the win and Keira Warwick got the save.

Game two didn't bode well for the Hornets. Broome gave up 10 runs and 8 hits in the first inning, and 8 runs and 8 hits in the second. In all, Genesee amassed 21 hits off Espinoza and Warwick. The Hornets were led at the plate by Ramstine with 3 hits including a double. Beers, Warwick and Gaisford had a double and Simmons had her second triple of the day. Carlini and Warwick each had 3 hits and Logan Ives chipped in with a single. Broome moved to 9-11 overall and Genesee moved to 6-19 overall.

The Hornets look to get to the .500 mark this Thursday when they travel to the Watertown Fairgrounds for a twinbill against Jefferson CC scheduled to begin at 3:00 P.M.
