Softball Splits In Canandaigua

The Hornets split their doubleheader to Finger Lakes CC on the road Sunday afternoon, dropping the opener in five innings, 9-1, and went eight innings in the nightcap for the 13-12 victory.

Game one saw the Hornets plate their lone run of the contest in the top of the first thanks to an RBI double by Keira Warwick to drive in Brianna Ramstine. The Lakers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. Jenna Gaisford went the distance in the circle striking out three and walking two.

Game two turned into a slugfest, 37 hits in all, 16 by the Hornets and 17 by the Lakers. McKenna Beers and Warwick led the bats for Boome with each having three hits. Leah Carlini, Gaisford, Alana Espinoza and Lauren Simmons had two hits each. Doubles were had by Gaisford and Espinoza, and Ramstine added a triple to her lines. Carly Kirtland also got into the foray with a single. Warwick was credited with the winning RBI when she hit a single to right driving in Beers. Espinoza picked up the win in the circle, striking out nine in the eight inning contest. Broome goes to 8-10 on the season and Finger Lakes goes to 12-12.

The Hornets will turn around and face Genesee CC on Monday afternoon at the BU Bearcat Softball Complex scheduled to begin at 3:00 P.M.
