Softball Slips In Watertown

The Hornets lost both of their games to Jefferson CC on Thursday in Watertown, dropping the first one 9-1 in six innings and the second one 6-4 in seven.

Runs were scarce for the Hornets in game one, plating their lone run in the last inning thanks to an RBI double by Alana Espinoza. Leah Carlini posted a triple in the top of the sixth and reached home on Espinoza's double accounting for Broome's run. Also reaching base by way of a hit was McKenna Beers and Lauren Simmons. Espinoza picked up the loss in the circle for Broome, going four and one third innings and Keira Warwick finished out the last one and two thirds.

Broome came up short in game two after falling behind early to the Cannoneers 6-0 before they scored four unanswered runs, one in the third, two in the fifth and one more in the seventh. The bats came alive posting nine hits in all led by Brianna Ramstine with three hits, two of them doubles.Beers had two hits including a double, Carini added a hit, Espinoza chipped in with a double and, Carly Kirtland and Logan Ives added a hit apiece. Jenna Gaisford got the loss and Warwick found herself back in the circle to finish the game. Broome dropped to 9-13 overall with the loss and Jefferson improved to 20-9 overall with the win.

Up next for Broome is a doubleheader against Region III's fourth ranked team, Niagara County CC, this Saturday at the BU Bearcat Softball Complex scheduled for a noon start.
