
Gray-Motto And Vazquez Set Schools Records In First Meet Of Season

The Hornets took part in the SUNY Cortland Red Dragon Open on Friday.
Khala Gray-Motto set the tone by taking home 1st place in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.47 meters. This set a school record for the event, surpassing the previous high mark of 5.02 meters set in 2022. Gray-Motto's result qualified her for Nationals in the long jump.
Gabriella Vazquez also set a school record in the discus throw with a distance of 27.18 meters, besting the previous high of 9.23 meters set in 2023. Vazquez also registered a distance of 8.15 meters in the shot put.
Carly Hein had a pair of top-10 finishes in the women's long jump and triple jump. Her distance of 4.85 meters in the long jump was good for 7th place and qualified her for Nationals. Her distance of 9.84 meters in the triple jump was good for 8th place and also met the qualifying standard for Nationals.
Ava Schiff competed in four events on Friday and qualified for Nationals in two of them. Schiff jumped 4.04 meters in the women's long jump, jumped 9.42 meters in the triple jump, threw a distance of 7.98 meters in the shot put, and ran the 100 meter hurdles in 19.11 seconds. Her mark in the triple jump and her time in the 100 meter hurdles each reached the qualifying standard for Nationals.
Amber Neumuth participated in the women's 100 meter dash and long jump. Riley Precourt also competed in the long jump and the 200 meter and 400 meter dash. Hannah Sanford participated in the shot put and the discus throw.
