Carly Hein and Ava Schiff each had a top-5 finish in an event as the women's track & field team enjoyed a successful day in Utica on Sunday.
Hein took 4th place in the women's triple jump with a distance of 9.97 meters which improved upon her mark of 9.84 meters from the previous meet in Cortland. She also placed 7th overall in the long jump, jumping 4.96 meters, which improved upon her mark of 4.85 meters in the event at the Red Dragon Open.
Schiff was one place behind her teammate Hein with a 5th place finish in the triple jump. She jumped 9.90 meters, which bettered her mark of 9.42 meters at the Red Dragon Open. Schiff made noticeable improvements in all of her results from the Cortland invite to the Utica invite: also raising her shot put from 7.98 meters to 8.27 meters and quickening her time in the 110 meter hurdles from 19.11 seconds to 18.55 seconds.
The Hornets continued to impress in the discus throw as well. After Gabriella Vazquez set a school record in the event in Cortland just one meet ago, teammate Hannah Sanford surpassed that mark in Utica and established a record of her own, throwing 27.73 meters. This result qualified Sanford for the NJCAA National Championships in the event.
Riley Precourt competed in the long jump and ran in the women's 200 meter dash and the 400 meter run. She registered a distance of 3.94 meters in the long jump and her times in the races were 32.10 seconds and 1:14.34, respectively. Precourt bettered her marks in the long jump and the 400 meter run compared to the Red Dragon Open.
Chayse McRae made her season debut and competed in the shot put, throwing 4.72 meters.
