
Gray-Motto Wins National Championship; Schiff Takes 3rd Overall At Nationals

Khala Gray-Motto and Ava Schiff, among others, starred for the women's track & field team at the 2025 NJCAA Division III National Championships last weekend.
Gray-Motto was the NJCAA Division III National Champion in the women's 200 meter dash, winning the finals of the event with a time of 26.12 seconds. She also took 4th overall in the 100 meter dash, running 12.73 seconds in the finals of the event. Gray-Motto's exemplary weekend also included a 6th-place overall finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.93 meters. Gray-Motto was named an NJCAA All-American for all three events. She also placed within the top-15, 14th overall, in the javelin throw. She threw a distance of 21.76 meters.
Schiff took 3rd place overall in the women's heptathlon, accumulating 2,113 points over the course of seven events. Notably, Schiff was 1st among heptathlon competitors in the shot put; 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles; and 3rd in the 800 meter. Schiff also placed 6th overall in the triple jump with a distance of 9.94 meters. Schiff is recognized as an All-American for her performance in both events. She also took 12th place overall in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.49 seconds.
Carly Hein was a third Hornet who excelled at the National Championships, earning All-American honors in two events. Hein took 4th overall in the triple jump with a distance of 10.59 meters. She also took 5th overall in the long jump with a distance of 4.94 meters.
Gabriella Vazquez placed within the top-15 in all three of the events in which she competed. She logged an 11th-place finish in the javelin throw and a 13th-place finish in both the shot put and the discus throw.
Hannah Sanford placed 12th overall in the discus throw, throwing 27.52 meters. Riley Precourt was 18th overall in the 400 meter, running 1:11.11.
Overall, SUNY Broome placed 8th out of 22 teams at the National Championships meet. Congratulations on an outstanding close to the season for the women's track & field team.
