Baseball Splits Doubleheader

SUNY Broome split a double header with Jamestown Community College Saturday at Hornet field. The Hornets (9-13, 7-7) won game one 10-0 in six innings, but dropped game two 5-4. 

SUNY Broome took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Joe Klenchik (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) singled to center field to lead off the inning and then stole second. Two batters later Forrest Gilbert (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) walked, and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Adam Kettle (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) followed with a single to score both Klenchik and Gilbert.

The Hornets opened the game up in bottom of the fifth with Jowendrick Sillie (Willemstad, Curacao/SGO Jacques Ferrandi) leading the inning off with a single. Sillie stole second, and advanced to third on a Jayhawks throwing error. Jack Burns (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) singled to score Sillie and Henry Pellicciotti (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) followed with a walk. Klenchik singled, scoring Burns and pushing Pellicciotti to third. Troy Scales (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) followed with a single to score Pellicciotti with Klenchik ending up at third. Klenchik scored on a passed ball, and Gilbert followed with a walk. Jaidorick Woods (Willemstad, Curacao/Regina Paces) walked to load the bases, and Sillie followed with a walk, scoring Scales. Burns singled for the second time in the inning, driving in Gilbert and Woods to give the Hornets a 9-0 lead.
 
Scales doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth for the Hornets, and would advance to third on a wild pitch. Todd Cutting (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) legged out an infield single and Cody Burnett (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) followed with a single of his own, scoring Scales and giving SUNY Broome the 10-0 win.
Terrence Garcia (Willemstad, Curacao/Marnix Cas Cora) scattered seven hits, struck out six, and did not walk a batter to pick up his second win of the season.
 
The Jayhawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two, scoring on two hits and an error.
SUNY Broome answered back in the bottom half of the inning when Burns hit a one-out single. Pellicciotti followed with a walk. Klenchik followed with a single, scoring Burns. Pellicciotti scored on a Scales sacrifice fly to right to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead.
Jamestown retook the lead in the top of the fifth, scoring twice on two hits, and two errors, to take a 3-2 lead.
The Hornets would score twice in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 4-3 lead. Klenchik led of the inning with a double and Scales followed with a single. Kettle walked to load the bases and two batters later Cutting singled to score Klenchik and Scales.
The Jayhawks rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring twice on three hits and two walks to earn a 5-4 win.
SUNY Broome will head to Jamestown Sunday for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
