Baseball Swept In Syracuse

SUNY Broome was swept in a double header at Onondaga Community College Thursday. The Hornets (10-16, 8-10) lost game one to the NJCAA's 6th ranked team 3-0 and game two 3-1. 

The Lazers scored one run on two hits in the bottom of the first inning, and Hornet starter Todd Cutting (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) scattered four hits over the next four scoreless innings. 

Onondaga, Region III's top team, struck again in the bottom of the sixth, finally getting to Cutting, plating two runs on four hits to push the lead to 3-0. 

Cutting spread 10 hits over six innings, striking out five and walking only one. 

Onondaga took an early lead in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. The Lazers only tallied one hit, but a hit by pitch, two errors, and two catcher's interference calls allowed Onondaga to take a 3-0 lead. 

Hornet starter Matt DePalmo (Endwell, NY/Union-Endicott) settled into a groove after the first inning allowing only three Lazers to reach base over the next five innings. 

SUNY Broome cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the second, as Forrest Gilbert (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) hit a one-out double. Cody Burnett(Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) reached on a dropped third strike, pushing Gilbert to third. Matt Torto (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) singled up the middle to score Gilbert, plating the Hornets only run of the day. 

DePalmo threw only 60 pitches in a complete game two-hitter, walking only one and striking out three. 

The Hornets host Niagara County Community College Saturday in a double header starting at 1 p.m.
