Baseball Falls On The Road

SUNY Broome dropped a double header Sunday at Niagara County Community College. The Hornets (10-20, 8-14) lost the first game 3-0, and the second 8-2. 

The Thunderwolves took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one, scoring on two hits and a sacrifice fly. 

Niagara added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring twice on four hits and an error. 

Rachid Martie (Willemstad, Curacao/VSBO St. Jozef) scattered nine hits and struck out three over six innings but took the loss for the Hornets. 

Niagara scored first in game two, taking a 2-0 lead after the first inning on one hit, three walks, and an error. 

The Thunderwolves extended the lead to 4-0 in the second inning, on four walks and an error. 

SUNY Broome cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the third when Matt Torto (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) earned a one-out walk. Joe Wasko (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic Central) followed with a single, moving Torto to third. Jaidorick Woods (Willemstad, Curacao/Regina Paces) reached on an error, scoring Torto and giving the Hornets runners at first and third. Henry Pellicciotti (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) followed with a single up the middle scoring Wasko for the second run of the inning. 

Niagara pushed three more runs across in the bottom of the fourth on three hits, two errors and a walk to take a 7-2 lead. 

The Thunderwolves pushed the lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth on one hit, a walk and an error. 

The Hornets rallied in the seventh when Torto earned a one-out walk. Wasko followed with a single, and Woods walked to load the bases. Pellicciotti doubled to score Torto to cut the lead to 8-3, but the Hornets rally was cut short. 

SUNY Broome will host Erie Community College on Tuesday in a double header starting at 2 p.m.
