The women's basketball team held on for a 60-59 MSAC win in Dryden on Friday night against Tompkins Cortland CC.  Broome jumped out to 23-13 lead at the end of the first quarter behind four 3-pointers, three of those coming from freshman guard Kori Thorton and the other from sophomore Vivian Ladd.  The Panthers closed the gap in the second, sending both teams into the locker room with the Hornets up 31-25.  Broome was outscored again in the third but responded to a late bucket by the host team with a basket of their own for the 44-43 lead going into the final quarter.  The lead changed hands five times in the last quarter and saw the score tied five times as well.  Thornton again had the hot hand in the fourth, connecting on three more 3-pointers.  With just under 20 seconds left in the contest Ladd hit one of her two free throws for the 60-59 lead and the MSAC win.  The Panthers had a chance with four seconds left but couldn't connect on either free throw.

Thornton led all scorers with 18 points including a 6-7 showing from beyond the arc, both collegiate highs.  Ladd posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go with her 5 assists, 3 steals and 6 blocks.  Calista Smith also reached the double figure mark with 11 points and contributed 3 assists, a steal and a block.  Tompkins Cortland was led by Mackenzie Constable with 15 points, all of the 3-point variety.

Broome improved to 6-9 in Region III; 3-4 MSAC while Tompkins Cortland fell to 2-13 in Region III; 1-8 MSAC.  The Hornets will face the NJCAA's 8th ranked Lazers from Onondaga on Wednesday in the Baldwin Gymnasium, scheduled for a 6:00 P.M. tip.
