The women's basketball team fell behind early against Corning CC on Wednesday evening but fought their way back the rest of the game only to fall short to the Red Barons, 82-78.  The Hornets trailed midway through the first quarter 17-2 behind the shooting of Corning's Hannah Morse and Taylor Kelly.  Broome went on a 10-4 run to close out the first frame and outscored the Red Barons 23-19 in the second to close the gap going into halftime, 41-35.  Corning expanded their lead to 10 points after the third only to have Broome cut into the lead and turn it into a one point game with 10 seconds left in the contest.  The Hornets had a chance to go up by one but a mishandled ball and the potential lead ended any hopes for the comeback win.

Vivian Ladd's determination and refusal to give up led to a 27-point second half performance, to give her a collegiate high 41 points in the game.  The sophomore also led Broome in rebounds, assists and steals with 9, 3 and 3 respectively.  Kori Thornton added 9 points and Calista Smith chipped in with 8 points, followed by Miya Ritchie and Daisy Allen with 7 points each.  Ladd's counterpart in the game, Morse, finished with 31 points for the host team.

Broome is off now until next Tuesday when they will travel north to Watertown for a 5:00 P.M. tipoff against Jefferson CC in the last regular season game of the year.  The Hornets will then wait for the seedings to come out the following Thursday, with the first round of Sub-Regional games played on Saturday, February 22nd at the higher seed.
