Softball Splits With SUNY Delhi

The SUNY Broome softball team split a double header with SUNY Delhi today at the BAGSAI Softball Complex in Binghamton winning game one 12-6 and dropping the second game 11-10 in 8 innings. Jenna Flannery (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) picked up the win in the first game with help from McKenzie Martin (Deposit, NY/Deposit) who was 4 for 4 with 2 singles and 2 doubles and scored 4 runs. Brianna Stinson (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) hit a 2 run home run in the bottom of the third inning and Karisa Sheriff (Windsor, NY/Windsor) was 3 for 4 with 2 singles, a double, and 3 RBIs. 

In the second game, the Hornets jumped out to a 4-0 lead and stayed out in front until the 4th inning.  The Broncos scored 5 runs on two doubles and three Broome errors.  In the bottom of the 6th inning Delhi was out in front 6-4.  Justina Ellis (Deposit, NY/Deposit) hit her first of two doubles for the game and Flannery singled to score Ellis. Meagan Malarkey sacrificed to move Flannery to second and Martin singled to move Flannery to third. Delaney Zizak doubled to score Flannery and tie the score 6-6.

In the 8th inning tie breaker Delhi's bats came alive and they scored 5 runs starting with 2 Broome errors followed by a single and 3 doubles.  Broome came back however with Ellis doubling for the second time scoring Melanie Jones. Flannery then hit a single scoring Ellis and Martin hit a single to score Victoria Schaub who was a pinch-runner for Flannery. Zizak doubled to score Martin and bring Broome to within one run of tying the game.
 Ellis was the losing pitcher in the game and pitched all 8 innings.

SUNY Broome travels to Dryden on Thursday for a 3:00 p.m. game against Tompkins Cortland CC.
