Broome Drops Opener

The volleyball team dropped their home opener on Wednesday afternoon to Monroe College-Bronx by a score of 3-0.

Set one appeared to be in the books when the Express jumped out to an 11-1 lead but the Hornets would not go away that easily. Broome fought their way back from the ten point deficit and turned it into a back and forth affair ultimately falling to the visitors 26-24. The second and third sets saw the Hornets battle the Express but couldn't hang on, and expand their leads, falling in set two and set three by respective scores or 25-22 and 25-20.

Gabriella Bishop led the team in kills with 10, Kate Spencer added 6 and Jaylen Bennett chipped in with 5. Anna Tiberia had 24 assists, Bishop and Casie Kephart had 2 aces apiece. Kephart led the way in digs with 15, Spencer had 11 and Bennett added 9.

Broome looks to rebound next Tuesday against Corning CC with a 6:00 PM home match in the West Gymnasium.
