Men's soccer hosted the Panthers of Tompkins Cortland CC on Wednesday in the season finale, coming up just short with a 2-0 loss.

The two teams played a very evenly-matched contest with each side creating chances. The Panthers struck for a goal early in the first half of the match due to some miscommunication by the Hornets' defense.

The Panthers would continue to get looks throughout the rest of the first half, but Broome's defense stymied each opportunity. Amidst numerous chances for Broome to even the score as the first half winded down, Lucas Cottrell found a breakaway and beat the Panthers' keeper when he came out to try and stop the Cottrell attack. Cottrell tried to roll the ball in from some yards out, but it was kept out by a Tompkins Cortland defender who came from behind to chase it down just before it reached the goal.

Cottrell and Jasik Dhillon registered multiple shots in the contest, while Corey Cottrell and Jacob Sansom also added shots for the Broome attack. None were able to break in Broome's favor, however. The match remained 1-0 for most of the second half with the Hornets consistently pushing but coming up just short on scoring opportunities.

The Panthers tacked on an insurance goal late in the second to secure the win, just getting past the outstretched arms of Hornet keeper Dean Patterson on what would have been a brilliant save. Getting bombarded with Panthers' chances all day, Patterson still recorded 11 saves, several of which were exemplary and in high-leverage situations.

Broome finishes the 2024 season with a 1-10-1 record.
