Men's Soccer Announces Michael Carmody As Head Coach
SUNY Broome Athletics has appointed Michael Carmody as the new Head Coach of the men's soccer program.
SUNY Broome Athletics has appointed Michael Carmody as the new Head Coach of the men's soccer program.
Carmody has been involved with the game of soccer his entire life, beginning playing competitively at eight years old. He played NCAA Division III soccer at Bryn Athyn College in Pennsylvania and competed for the Ocean City Nor'Easters U23 program during the college offseason. He was named the team captain of his Bryn Athyn team in 2023, a team that went on to host the program's first home playoff game. Most recently, Carmody has played semi-professional soccer with Oakland United FC in the American Premier Soccer League (formerly known as the Eastern Premier Soccer League).
Carmody has been coaching and training high school and club soccer players for the past eight years. The most recent stop in his blossoming coaching career saw him as the Head Coach of the boy's varsity soccer team at West Deptford High School in West Deptford, New Jersey in 2024.
Carmody was entrusted to lead a team that was considered in a rebuild after it had lost eight starting seniors and the conference player of the year from a season ago. He guided the program to a 14-7-1 finish, finishing first in the South Jersey Group 2 and clinching a fourth straight Coaches Cup bid (a postseason tournament that only the top 16 teams in South Jersey are invited to). His West Deptford team ended the regular season with the most goals scored in the conference, and came up just short against the eventual Group 2 New Jersey state champion Sterling with a 2-2 (4-3 in penalty kicks) loss in the sectional semifinal.
Carmody is looking forward to bringing an exciting and competitive energy to the SUNY Broome men's soccer program as it looks to elevate to an NJCAA Region III and national power under his guidance. He is excited to help the student-athletes reach their potential on and off the field.
Welcome to the SUNY Broome Athletics family, Michael Carmody!
