Women's Soccer Team Head To The National Tournament

The womens soccer team defeated Alfred State College Saturday on the turf at Tompkins-Cortland CC in the NJCAA Region III Championships.  The Hornets got on the board early when Emily Icenogle took a direct kick from about 40 yards out and with laser like precision beat goalkeeper Krista DeCarlo to the upper 90 of the goal. Later in the first half Danielle Tyrrell assisted a goal by Kelcie Gooding to send the Hornets into the half up 2-0.

After dominating play in the first half Alfred turned up the heat scoring 9 minutes into the second half.  Broome's defense played strong for the remaining 36 minutes and held off the onslaught finally turning some good attacking moments into clock burners holding on to the 2-1 victory. Coach Bill Rich credits the outstanding offensive play in the first half and the incredibly solid defensive play in the final half for the victory. "Our team was pumped and up to the task", and never gave a thought to the fact that they were playing the #1 team in the nation. Broome is currently 14-3 heading into the National Tournament.

The All-Tournament team was led by Amber Villecco, Marisa Valdes, Danielle Tyrrell and MVP Emily Icenogle.
