Women Pick Up First Win

The women's soccer team defeated Niagara County CC on Wednesday evening in Sanborn, 3-0, for their first win of the 2023 season. 

In the 20th minute, a free-kick from Courtney Seery found its way into the box, where Julia Burd gained control. Burd swiftly passed the ball through to Lilly Wlostowski, who calmly slotted it past the goalkeeper, granting the Hornets their first goal of the match. The team's momentum continued to surge, and in the 35th minute, Emily Kane capitalized on another brilliant cross from Julia Burd. Kane's composed finish extended the lead to 2-0 just moments before halftime.

In the 80th minute, Leah Williams showcased her skills as she advanced the ball towards the opponent's box. A perfectly timed pass set up Laura Breigle for a long-range shot that found the back of the net, sealing the match with the final goal. The victory also marked a significant milestone for goalkeeper Crista Schanbacher, who secured her first shutout for her collegiate record. The Hornets impoved to 1-2 on the season and the Thunderwolves dropped to 0-2.
