The women's soccer team traveled to Dryden for a MSAC match against Tompkins Cortland CC on Wednesday where they defeated the Panthers 2-0.

Each team displayed its offensive prowess right from the kickoff, including the Hornets registering 13 shot attempts in the first half, yet the match stayed level at 0-0 upon halftime. The deadlock broke at the 47:29 mark when Olivia Laney delivered a cross from outside the box, which was deftly touched back by Jessica Wells to Haley Beckwith. Beckwith struck the ball from the top of the box, sailing it over the keeper's head, and into the back of the net. Nearly 40 additional minutes of scoreless soccer passed until Lilly Wlostowski threaded a pass through two defenders, finding Julia Burd, who unleashed a powerful shot from the top of the box into the upper corner of the goal.

Broome maintained control of the game en route to their shutout win, outshooting the Panthers 20-8. A low-scoring affair was the result of great play by the respective goalkeepers. Gabby Foley of Tompkins Cortland notched an impressive 13 saves to keep her team within reach. Hornets keeper Crista Schanbacher made 5 saves to preserve a clean sheet for Broome.

The win for the Hornets improves their record to 7-5 on the season, while the Panthers' defeat drops their record to 0-8 overall.

Broome will travel to Herkimer College on Wednesday, October 18, for a 7:00 P.M. matchup with the Generals.
