Women's Soccer Triumphs Over Jamestown In Regional Quarterfinal

The women's soccer team shutout Jamestown CC 2-0 on Saturday to advance to the Semifinal round of the 2023 Region III Women's Soccer Championships.

In a home clash for the Hornets at Alumni Field, Broome secured a hard-fought victory against Jamestown CC in the Region III Quarterfinals. Despite an intense first half filled with efforts from both sides, neither team could find the back of the net and it was 0-0 at halftime. Broome dominated possession, while Jamestown kept the Hornet defense alert with swift counterattacks. 

The tension finally broke in the 55th minute when Courtney Seery unleashed a powerful shot from a free kick about 30 yards out, sailing over the goalkeeper and finding the net to put Broome up 1-0. In the 69th minute, the Hornets broke through again when Maci Spencer orchestrated a drive into traffic with the ball and pulled off a pass to Haley Beckwith, who scored a precisely-placed shot with her left foot. 

The Hornets continually pressed forward and maintained a shot tally of 22, outshooting Jamestown, who managed just one shot on goal throughout the game. Broome goalkeeper Crista Schanbacher only needed to make one save, securing her sixth shutout of the season. Jayhawks goalkeeper Jolize Beukman put on a remarkable defensive display of her own, registering 18 saves to keep Jamestown in contention. 

The Hornets improve to 8-5 on the year while the Jayhawks finish their season with a 3-8-2 record. With this victory, Broome advances to the Regional Semifinals where they will face the Herkimer Generals on the road at Wehrum Stadium on Tuesday.
