Women Secure Shutout On Road

Team lined up before game
@ Jamestown

The women's soccer team secured a 6-0 victory in Chautauqua against Jamestown on Saturday afternoon in a Region III contest. In an impressive display of teamwork, the Hornets wasted no time establishing their dominance. Haley Beckwith initiated the scoring during the 8th minute, delivering a pass from the top of the box to Julia Burd, who unleashed a powerful shot into the back of the net. Just three minutes later, Courtney Seery, surging forward from the defense, orchestrated a brilliant give-and-go play with Leah Williams and Emily Kane. Seery's swift movement placed her at the top of the box, where she aimed up for a shot past the goalkeeper for the Hornets' second goal. It was a rally from both teams for the next 25 minutes, with no further breakthroughs until the 36th minute when a penalty kick was awarded. Laura Breigle's well placed ball made it past the Jayhawks' goalkeeper. In the 43rd minute, Williams unleashed a shot that was parried by the keeper, only for Beckwith to pounce on the rebound and net another goal before halftime giving Broome the 4-0 lead.

The second half saw the Hornets maintain their composure while both teams attempted runs on goal. In the 74th minute, Seery delivered a free kick from 30 yards out, finding Lilly Wlostowski's foot, which gracefully curved the ball into the net for the finish. Just two minutes later, Burd sent a cross from the wing, which Williams received and fired at the goal. The rebound fell perfectly to Wlostowski, who slotted it home.

Broome showed dominance around the box outshooting the Jayhawks 27-1 as Jamestown's goalkeeper Jolie Beukman made an impressive 15 saves. Hornets' goalkeeper Crista Schanbacher made two saves to preserve her team's clean sheet. With this victory, the Hornets improved their season record to 3-3 while the Jayhawks fell to 1-5.

Up next, Broome will travel to Utica to face the nationally ranked Mohawk Valley CC Hawks on Friday, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
