The Hornets held leads of 4-2 and 5-4 in the first quarter, but played from behind for the rest of the game. SUNY Broome managed to stay within striking distance for three quarters, trailing just 14-7 after one, 32-22 at the half, and 46-35 after three, before Genesee pulled away in the fourth and led by as many as 22 points.
Sophia Ashman led the team in scoring with a statline of 12 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Lillian Monroe added 11 points and six rebounds. Juliana Turner was the third Hornet in double digits with 10 points and five rebounds. Kendall Farthing provided a spark from the bench with nine points, all on three-pointers. Madeline Hyzer led all players in the contest with a career-high 16 rebounds, while Zephora Brouillette hauled down 12 boards.
The Hornets were outshot by the Cougars from the field, three-point range, and the charity stripe in the loss.
SUNY Broome falls to 2-13 and 0-7 in conference. The team will travel to Jefferson CC on Wednesday for another MSAC matchup.
