The women's basketball team was outscored by 14 points in both the first and third quarter of Saturday's loss.
The identical first and third stanzas each saw Cayuga score 19 points and SUNY Broome score five points, a 14-point advantage. That proved to be decisive, as the Spartans gained a +28 point differential from those two quarters alone. Cayuga was only +4 across the other two quarters in the game.
The Hornets trailed 29-16 entering the half. The aforementioned strong third quarter for Cayuga put the game out of reach entering the fourth, 48-21.
Juliana Turner was the lone Hornet in double figures for scoring. She registered 13 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, two steals, and two assists. Lillian Monroe had six points, five rebounds, and four steals. Madeline Hyzer and Zephora Brouillette combined for 15 rebounds in the loss.
SUNY Broome is now 3-17 overall and 0-11 in MSAC play with three games remaining in the regular season.
