Women's Soccer Wins Battle Of Nationally Ranked Teams!

The NJCAA's 7th ranked Hornets defeated the 5th ranked Genesee CC Cougars 3-1 in a showdown at Alumni Field Monday afternoon in Binghamton. The match was as expected...a battle to the finish. The Cougars scored first in the 21st minute when Kayla Doyle received a pass behind the defense and scored on a breakaway. After that the Hornets came alive on the way to the 3-1 final. In the 33rd minute Kaelyn Michitti (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) received a pass from Mikaela Mazerolle (Maryland, NY/Oneonta) inside the box and finished a clinical shot to tie the game. At 65:09 of the second half Michitti struck again, receiving a pass into the backfield from Terry Peterson (Franklin, NY/Franklin) finishing a  breakaway. In the 84th minute Michitti put a pass to the top of the box where Rosemary Zelenyak (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) volleyed it into the goal to finish off the scoring. Broome had 19 shots compared to Genesee's 2 as the Hornet defense once again erased any real chances the Cougars had. Hayley Finelli (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) had 1 save in the contest while Katlynne Tubo had 4 stops for the visitors.

The Hornets are right back at it this Wednesday at 4:00 P.M. when they host Region III opponent Jefferson CC on Alumni Field.
