Men's Basketball Team Opens Season With A Road Win

The men's basketball team opened their season with an 83-75 victory on the road against Jamestown CC, in Olean, NY. The Hornets came out strong from the jump, opening up a 17 point lead early on. After some foul trouble for Broome, Jamestown cut into the lead to get within 9 at halftime. In the second half, both teams would make runs, but the Hornets never lost the lead, thanks to some timely baskets and solid free throw shooting to close out the game.

Broome turned in a balanced scoring effort, with 5 players in double figures, led by Chris Smith (Queens, NY/Newtown) with 19 points, to go along with 8 boards and 5 steals, and Dashown Nelson (Brooklyn, NY/HS of Telecommunication Arts & Technology) with 18. James Saunders (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) scored in a variety of ways to finish with 12 points. Shameek Brown (Brooklyn, NY/Boys & Girls) worked hard for his 11 points and 6 boards, and William Mason (Rochester, NY/James Monroe) added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hornets are home Saturday against Schenectady County CC and Sunday against Fulton-Montgomery CC scheduled to tip-off at 3:00 P.M.
